Book Review: Seriously I'm Kidding... by Ellen Degeneres

I recently joined audible.com because I thought it would be nice to have audio books to listen to while I'm walking the dogs and riding in the car. So far, I have listened to Tina Fey's Bossypants (horribly funny! I highly recommend) and Seriously I'm Kidding... by Ellen Degeneres. Both books were read by the author, which I found to be favorable and I enjoyed quite a bit. Although Ellen is one of my favorites, I was a little disappointed by her book. I'm not sure if I set the bar really high or what, but Tina Fey's book was a lot funnier. And also, much more blatantly inappropriate which is in turn hilarious.  Both are a good read, or "listen" in my case and worth purchasing.

So far I like being a member of audible because they give me a credit per month and it gives me a chance to get to those books that I don't have time to sit and read. I have not tried anything other than the type of book mentioned above, because I have to admit I am a little nervous about listening to a classic novel. I don't know, I guess I am just one of those readers that is so worried about missing something and I hang on every. single. word. With Ellen's book or Tina Fey's book, I wasn't too worried about missing a word or two. I will have to report back.

Next on the audio book list: The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. New York Times best seller and it's about dogs. Can't go wrong.

50 Shades of....

I honestly cannot tell you why I even picked up 50 Shades of Grey, let alone bought it.  It's most definitely not my type of book. Maybe it's because I enjoyed the Hunger Games series so much and it was wildly popular, so I thought the public opinion on books could be trusted. Who knows? My issue right now is that I am not reading.  I just cannot seem to get into that book. Perhaps it is too trashy and unrealistic? I'm not sure.  I'm not hopping on my soap box to bash the book.  Each to their own. What I am saying is that it's not for me and I think I will be putting it down so that I can pick up a book that actually makes me want to read.

The Woods

We live near the woods and often take our dogs for walks back there, so it's safe to say that I go into the woods just about every day. I know this is a little strange, but after reading The Hunger Games (I am almost done with book one) I look at the woods a bit different than I did before. I mean, I'm not out there looking for non-existent mockingjays - I haven't gone that mad yet. But, I feel as though I am more alert and aware of the things that are lurking in the woods as a result of reading this book. Or maybe it's just my imagination. Damn you Katniss Everdeen.

The Hunger Games

Book One

I finally gave in and am reading The Hunger Games. I resisted for a while because I wasn't sure if this was just another Twilight phenomenon or something. But how could I not read this book? My sister is reading if for the second time and asked that we read it for our book club. I am so glad she brought it up. I'm only 50 pages in and I can't stop thinking about reading it more. So far, this book reminds me of The Giver by Lois Lowry, Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell...and that movie Hannah. I hope Katniss is like Hannah. Seriously. I'm only on book one, and I'm told it only gets better. I'm so excited about this, and totally kicking myself for waiting so long to pick it up! Oh well, I'm reading it now! I've only heard good reviews on these books, anyone hate it?
